Good News to Counter Corruption, Injustice, and Deceit

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. -Psalm 89:14

Have you been side-lined, passed-over, lied about, or betrayed? If ever there was a piece of good news to counter corruption, injustice, and deceit, this easily overlooked passage is it. What on the surface may look like a little Bible-speak (nice words to include in a public prayer) is, in reality, the underpinning of our confidence that justice is still possible on the earth. Why is there great cynicism among people today about ever getting justice? Because so often it appears that nice guys finish last, that wrong too frequently wins, and the powerful get their way almost all the time.

Haven’t you found yourself asking, why does evil always win? Why do people get away with lying, slandering, and cheating? Why doesn’t God let the good guys win for a change? Is there a just God?

The Good News for us is that there is a God, and this God is all that the Bible claims he is. We can rest in the confidence that however far injustice and evil affect our lives, a final court of appeal (of wrongs being made right) is available to us. We have access to the perfect, righteous, and just Judge of the universe.

This judge loves truth, righteousness, and justice. He’s always and forever on the side of the right and the truth. He hates lies and unfairness wherever they occur and works to expose the works of darkness in his time and in his way. Not only that, but he doesn’t obey our commands or follow our dictates as to the timing or the nature of the punishments, but he carries out his justice according to a plan and purpose that’s perfect and always on time.

This confidence has allowed people to bear up under tyrants, corrupt officials, and gross injustice since the beginning of history. The knowledge nothing escapes our Creator’s watchful eye encourages us to live joyfully in an unjust world as we wait patiently for his righteousness to prevail. No evil escapes the watchful, loving eye of the Judge of all the earth.

We can stay hopeful in the worst of circumstances, not because we stubbornly hold onto our “faith in people,” but because we can expect God to remain consistent with his character. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne; love and faithfulness go before him. His mercy and grace exceed our expectations.

That’s good news!
